After an accident, AAA app offers assistance

No matter if it’s a minor fender-bender or a major collision, being involved in a wreck can be traumatic, and motorists often don’t know what steps to take when they step out of their dented car.

But AAA can help with a free downloadable form you can keep in your glove box. And for a more high-tech solution, there’s the new AAA Insurance app for iPhones. Both checklists make it easy to gather the necessary information in the event of an auto accident.

“Being involved in a collision can be very stressful, even if no one is injured,” said Bob Schreiber, vice president of AAA Insurance. “It can be overwhelming, but having step-by-step instructions can ease your fears and help you handle the incident properly to make the claims process run smoothly.”

Both the form, available at AAA.com in the insurance section, and the free AAA Insurance app advise motorists to move their damaged car if operable to the shoulder of the road and out of the way of traffic before gathering information. Do not argue, accuse anyone or make any admission of blame, and call law enforcement authorities and medical assistance if necessary.

The AAA Insurance app is handy because it provides one-touch access to call: police and emergency services; AAA to request a tow; and the AAA Insurance claims department for AAA Insurance policyholders. The app also is beneficial because users can document the incident, as well as take photos of the damage with their phone. Users can e-mail a report from their iPhone.

Available for free at AAA.com/mobile, the AAA Insurance app is the fourth free iPhone app offered by AAA. The AAA Discounts app uses GPS technology to display AAA Show Your Card & Save® locations. AAA Roadside enables members who need roadside assistance to send their location and breakdown details to AAA. And AAA TripTik® Mobile provides turn-by-turn navigation and locates hotels, restaurants and gas stations with current fuel prices.
