Is it time for an insurance tune-up?

Most of us review our insurance policies only when we buy a new car or move into a new home. But there are plenty of other reasons why you should take a look at your auto, life and homeowners’ policies. Here are some questions to consider.

Q: Do you have the right coverage?
A: Significant life changes–such as marriage, a baby or a new home–impact your insurance needs, but some changes are not as obvious.

For example, a home in a new neighborhood may also affect the cost of your auto insurance. If you move into an upgraded home, you might need to update your limits so you have enough coverage to repair or replace the home if it were damaged or destroyed.

Q: Does your policy offer all the services you need?
A: Do you have access to a car if yours has to stay in the shop for a week or more? If not, consider adding rental car coverage to your auto policy.

Q: Are you entitled to additional policy discounts?
A: Say you’re adding a new driver to your policy. Your premiums are likely to go up but you can mitigate the increase by taking advantage of available discounts. Young drivers who successfully complete a driver-training course and get good grades may be eligible to receive discounts. When the opportunity arises, review your policy with your agent.
