Experience a Grand Canyon railway tour

Standing at the brink of the Grand Canyon is an inspiring experience, and getting there can be just as fascinating aboard the Grand Canyon Railway on its Rails to the Rim package.

A popular tour offered by AAA twice a year, the trip begins in Phoenix. Tour participants are treated to a deluxe motorcoach journey northward through Arizona, stopping first in spiritual Sedona, home of red rock canyons, bubbling creeks and unique shops. Next is the quaint old railroad town of Williams and a comfortable overnight at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel.

The next morning the classic rail cars of the Grand Canyon Railway wait just outside the hotel. It is a relaxing two-hour ride through high desert country and lodgepole pine forests to the magnificent South Rim. The journey is followed by a guided tour of the South Rim and then a restful night at Maswik Lodge, which is located just one-fourth mile from the canyon’s edge.

Guests can go sightseeing, hiking and exploring the next morning before hopping on the afternoon train back to Williams. The last night of the tour is spent, once again, at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams before the three-hour drive back to Phoenix the next day.

The next AAA tour will take place Sept. 10–14. Rates for the package start at $949. For more details, visit your nearest AAA Travel Agency office. A list of offices to serve you is here, or call (888) 366-4222.

Access AAA directions, discount locations and maps right from your wireless device

Members never know when they might need help, or more importantly, where.

But with a wealth of AAA maps, information and services available on your cell phone, GPS unit and other wireless devices, help is right at your fingertips. The newest application, called AAA Discounts, will help Apple iPhone users find AAA savings nationwide.

The free GPS-based “app” displays retail locations of AAA Show Your Card & Save® (SYC&S) partners near the user. The application acquires the user’s location automatically, displays nearby SYC&S locations and allows the user to pan and zoom on a regional map. It displays key information including the name, phone, address, distance from location and details about the discount.

AAA’s SYC&S program is the largest member discount program in the world offering more than 110,000 retail locations in North America. AAA Discounts users can filter listings by category and have one-click access to narrative directions.

While all users can view locations offering discounts, only AAA members can take advantage of the savings.

In addition to the new iPhone app, there are options for other cell phone users. For instance, AAA members can take advantage of AAA Mobile Web, which provides free access to AAA travel information on portable Internet-capable wireless devices, including cell phones, PDAs and BlackBerry® devices.

Simply go to AAA.Mobi on your wireless device and you can get driving directions to hotels, restaurants, campgrounds and other AAA approved listings from AAA’s TourBook® guides.

Another option is to download AAA Mobile Navigator to your phone. For a monthly subscription of $9.99, users can take advantage of GPS navigation with audible turn-by-turn directions. AAA Mobile Navigator also offers traffic alerts, local gas prices, maps and the ability to find AAA approved hotels, restaurants, attractions and more. If members use their phone to place a call to AAA for roadside assistance, their GPS location is transmitted along with the call.

Lastly, AAA TourBook® information, SYC&S locations and more are available in select Magellan MaestroTM GPS devices. Members can save 15 percent off select Magellan items and 20 percent off auto installation via Geek Squad.

For more information on all of these offers, visit online at www.AAA.com/mobile.
